I am a certified expert witness and completed over 20 reports on clinical negligence, personal injury and condition and prognosis

I continue my training as medico-legal expert attending courses and conference and collaborating with medico-legal team within my Trust

Present duties:

  • Clinical Director for Neurology and Neurophysiology
  • Outpatient clinics (general neurology)
  • Inpatient ward referrals
  • Epilepsy clinics (First Seizure Clinics, Transition Clinic, Specialist Epilepsy Clinics)
  • Neurophysiology Clinics, (EMG clinics)
  • EEG reporting (baseline, sleep, ambulatory and video-ambulatory)
  • Technician nerve conduction studies reporting
  • Ad hoc neurophysiological testing along with neurological consultations in A&E department, hospital wards, critical care unit.
  • Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in Neurology, University of Birmingham
  • Teaching of clinical physiologists, Neurology and neurophysiology registrars, CMT, FY2 doctors, specialist registrars, and undergraduate. Educational Supervisor to FY doctors.
  • CME linked to the specialist neurology department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham

Achievments:

  • I have focused my activities and managed to develop and launch an epilepsy service which acts as a filter to tertiary centers and responds to the demanding pressure on A&E for chronic patients with epilepsy.
  • I have set up a new investigational tool that consists in prolonged (up to 96 hours) video-EEG ambulatory service
  • I am improving the neurophysiology service expanding the range of techniques available, rationalizing the referrals, educating colleagues who are not familiar with the potentials and pitfalls of these tests and offering often both a neurophysiological and neurological input
  • I am leading the Neurology service and have managed to cope with lack of trainees and specialists across the country and attract some talents to the Trust
  • I have participated in the future development of neurological services throughout the trust
  • I have supported and provided teaching and training of junior medical staff, post graduate medical education.
  • I have provided specialistadviceand skills training to colleagues from other disciplines as required for the optimum delivery of patient care.
  • I have developed and maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialties and participate, where appropriate, in clinical meetings and other postgraduate activities.
  • I have taken ongoing responsibility for patients under my care.
  • I have taken joint responsibility for the professional supervision and development of training and non-training grade posts in the department.
  • I have developed and maintained good communications with general medical practitioners and appropriate outside agencies.
  • I have demonstrated a firm involvement in clinical governance, risk management and clinical audit – this will include the development and maintenance of appropriate systems and practices to ensure continued safe clinical practice.
  • I have ensured that my own practice is up-to-date; this includes taking responsibility for my own clinical professional development and participating in the trust’s performance review.
  • I have participated in annual appraisals and job plan review.
  • As a team member with the present consultants, I have operated a system of cover for annual, study and professional leave
  • I have deputized for absent colleagues, as far as is practicable.
  • I have obtained my certification as expert witness and I have completed ad-hoc clinical negligence, personal injury and condition and prognosis reports.
